Through overseas study tours and research the company keeps informed of the latest trends nationally and internationally in cultural policy development. The company maintains an extensive reference library and database of policies and implementation strategies from around the world.

Internationally Brecknock Consulting works in association with the UK think tank COMEDIA which was established by urban thinker Charles Landry. During 2007 Brecknock Consulting has been part of a creative city and cultural planning team undertaking workshops in a number of Norwegian cities.

Since 2005 Brecknock Consulting has been involved in the Intercultural City a major international research project headed by COMEDIA. The project is investigating the potential benefits to cities of cultural diversity and cross cultural activity. The Intercultural City project was launched in 2004 by COMEDIA with core funding from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, a not-for-profit trust with an interest in social issues. The Intercultural City research project in essence seeks to better understand the value of cultural diversity and the benefits of cross-cultural interaction in cities.

The Intercultural City is a project with local, national and international scope. At its core is a series of local case studies of cities in England, Norway, USA, Australia and New Zealand. The international case studies have each focused on exploring local issues while also providing pieces of the big picture to inform a comparative analysis process. The case studies included; Bristol, Tyne and Wear City-Region, London Borough of Lewisham and Tower Hamlets in England; Oslo and Brammen in Norway; Logan in Queensland: and Auckland, New Zealand
