Charles is the founder of COMEDIA and an authority on creativity and its uses and how city futures are shaped by paying attention to the culture of a place. He is the author of ‘The Creative City: A Toolkit for urban innovators’ and ‘The Art of City Making’.
Brecknock Consulting has worked in association with Charles and other members of COMEDIA on a range of projects in Australia and internationally, most significantly the Intercultural City project, an international research study into the cultural diversity and cities. As part of this project Brecknock Consulting worked with Charles on the design of the project web site and a series of related publications, including Richard Brecknock’s book ‘More Than Just a Bridge: Planning and Designing Culturally’.
Phil Wood, UK
Phil Wood has been a partner in COMEDIA since 2000 and is presently most associated with the concept of The Intercultural City. Phil has conducted widespread research and managed practical projects around the world and is currently principal advisor to the Council of Europe on its transnational Intercultural Cities programme. He is the author of ‘The Intercultural City Reader’ and ‘The Intercultural City: Planning for Diversity Advantage’ with Charles Landry. Brecknock Consulting and COMEDIA have collaborated on the Intercultural City project and Phil and Richard Brecknock undertook a series of Creative City workshops in a number of Norwegian cities in 2007.
Tom Fleming Creative Consultancy, London
Dr Tom Fleming
Dr Tom Fleming is a consultant and academic specialising in research and support for the Cultural and Creative Industries sector at all levels. Key areas of specialisation include Creative Industry investment, local and regional Creative Industry strategies, cluster development, detailed mapping, cultural planning, and establishing targeted support mechanisms for the Creative Industries sector that include approaches to finance, investment, business advice, skills/training, property feasibility, and network and supply chain development. He has led a range of research and strategy programmes on behalf of regional development agencies and high profile national bodies in the UK, as well he has undertaken significant international work. Tom is currently an advisor to Brecknock Consulting on the Creative Boom research project.
