art + architecture

Client: Moreton Bay Regional Council

Architect: pdt Architects

Artist: Chris Fox

Brecknock Consulting was engaged by Moreton Bay Regional Council, during the planning stage of the Corso North Lakes project, to manage the artwork commissioning process. The Corso North Lakes, which was formally opened on Saturday 13th September 2014, is a community and commercial building complex, which houses a library and community centre and three levels of commercial office space.

The building, designed by pdt Architects, is one of Australia’s first Five Star Green Star rated public buildings and was a pilot project for the Green Star scheme.

An opportunity was developed for a sculptural work to be located within the large public plaza located in the mid section of the site, adjacent the main entrance to the Library and Community Centre. It was envisaged that the work would become a centre piece for this focal gathering area.  As a singular sculptural form the artwork within the plaza would become a feature and destination/entrance marker.

Sydney based artist Chris Fox's artwork ‘Transmission’ was selected and commissioned for the project.

Artist statement;

Drawn from a fractured ground plane and connecting into the building, the artwork describes a transmission of knowledge, history and place.

As the tubes rupture, a boundless transmission is enabled.  "Transmission” suggests the knowledge and heritage of the site, through past, present and future inhabitations.
